Fraunhofer ISE, FENECON and OpenEMS are developing an open-source solution
Date: 16 June 2026 Author: Marco Mittelsdorf
The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, FENECON GmbH and the OpenEMS Association e. V. are jointly developing an open-source reference implementation for energy management systems (EMS) that enables secure and interoperable communication between metering systems, control systems and decentralised energy generation facilities. This solution lays the foundation for secure power grids and the economically optimal operation of generators, storage systems and electricity consumers. The integration of a library for communication protocols developed at Fraunhofer ISE into the open-source energy management system OpenEMS is intended to drive forward the digitalisation of the energy system.
